Article - Part II:

II. How to start enjoying Indian classical music?

Listen, listen, listen -- to relax, to enjoy. Involve friends and relatives. To enjoy Indian classical music, you do not have to learn it. You need to listen to it.

Listen to classical music as much as you can: it is very relaxing. When you are listening, do not try to learn, or to be critical, or to evaluate. Just listen -- only listen. At the end of a listening session, you will feel refreshed and relaxed. Listen when you need some change and relaxation after doing homework, or any kind of work that causes fatigue and stress. Involve your friends and relatives in your listening sessions.

How to start? What to listen to? To start with, just borrow any classical music CDs from your friends or relatives, or a library which allows you to borrow CDs. Instrumental classical may be easier to start with, for some; for others, vocal is more enjoyable in the beginning. Eventually, you will develop your taste. Much later, you may even become choosy. If you do not like music on a particular CD, return it and get another CD.
