- Part VII:
Choosing Audio Equipment for a concert
The
Amplifier: The power of amplification is reported
in Watts (W). For good frequency response in the lower
frequency range, consider atleast 100W amplifier, irrespective
of the size of your audience.
Try
to estimate the number of listeners in your audience.
About 50 for your performance in a basement? About 150
in a small hall? You may consider renting the equipment
for any higher requirement for power. Very generally
speaking, add one Watt per additional member in your
audience. T
hese
are indicative numbers; please consult an experienced
expert for better configuration. Target the Watts output
as RMS per channel - ask an expert!
The
amplifier can have a built-in mixer, or a built-in tape
recorder, or a built-in speaker. Ask your expert whether
any such "built-in" device is advisable. Her we are
comparing portability versus upgradability -- again,
consult an expert.
