Aarati Ankalikar Tikekar,Mumbai
Endowed with a rich and mellifluous voice, Arati took systematic training in music from the tender age of ten. She started her training with veteran Pt. Vasantrao Kulkarni of the Agra Gwalior Gharana.
Her presentation of any raga, thumri or bhajan is a treatise for the heart and soul for it is full of emotions and one can sense the depth in her presentations.
Arati has also got training from Smt. Kishori Amonkar. Presently, she is learning under Pt. Dinkar Kaikini.
While engaged in academic pursuits, Arati bagged a Central Government scholarship (1975-80) through the National Talent Search contest. NCPA, Mumbai has also awarded her the Kesarbai Kerkar scholarship (1980-82). She also stood first in the All India Radio Competition held during 1983 and 1984 in Indian Classical Music, Thumri and Ghazal categories.
Arati has performed at many prestigious conferences in major cities of India. She has also traveled extensively to USA, Canada, Europe and the Gulf countries for her performances. She has also sung for the film "Sardari Begum".
Arati holds an M.Com degree with Business Management from Bombay University. Her other varied interests include cricket, badminton and tennis.
