Born in Madhya Pradesh in 1966, Uday started his training in music at the age of eight from his sister. He was learning in a music school in Ujjain from 1975 to 1981.
Later, he received a four year scholarship from the Ustad Allaudin Khan Sangeet Academy to learn Dhrupad in "Guru-Shishya Parampara", under Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar at the Dhrupad Kendra in Bhopal. He also continued his training under the elder brother Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (the renowned Veena maestro).
Uday has been awarded a national scholarship and junior fellowship from the cultural department of the Indian government, as well as the Kumar Gandharva Samman by the M.P. Government.
In 1985, Uday gave his first public performance at Bhopal and since then has performed at major music festivals in India and abroad including Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior), Saptak (Ahmedabad), Sawai Gandharva Festival (Pune), etc.
His concerts abroad include the International voice festival (Rotterdam), Master of Raga (Holland), etc. His recordings have been published by companies like Rhythm House, Makar Records, Navras Records, Music Today.
