Smt. Shubha Joshi is an accomplished singer of the Hindustani Classical Music. She has been trained under the able guidance of Pt. Pandurang Amberkar, who belongs to Bhendi Bazar Gharana.
She obtained her B.A. and M.A. degrees in music from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai, securing first class first at both the examinations. She was a Gold Medalist at the B.A. Examination.
Later on she also received instructions from Pt. Ramesh Nadkarni and Master Navrang. Her liking for Thumri and Dadra, two very delicate varieties of of light classical music, drew her to the well known and popular singer Smt. Shobha Gurtu, who opened to her the rich treasure of the world of light classical music. Ustad Taj Ahmed Khan moulded Shubha’s voice for Ghazal singing. Late Shri Ninu Mazumdar and Smt. Kaumudi Munshi have contributed greatly in enriching Shubha’s experience of music, especially in the field of devotional songs.
Shubha is a Grade A artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Besides her regular programmes on AIR and DD, she has also given special programmes of Ghazal Ke Saye, Shyam-e-Ghazal and Mehfil.
She has given a number of successful performances at prestigious conferences such as Savai Gandharva Sammelan, Pune and Kundgol, and Pt. Paluskar Punya Tithi, Delhi, and also at Ichalkaranji, Amravati, Rajkot, Ujjain, Indore and several other places.
She has also sung for a number of films under such famous music directors as Shri Jaydev, Jagjit Singh, Vanraj Bhatia, Ashok Patki, Ram Kadam, Shiv-Hari, Sapan Jagmohan, Uttam Singh, Uday Mazumdar, A.R. Rehman. Her songs in Shyam Benegal’s ‘SARDARI BEGUM’ were greatly appreciated by music lovers.
Jan-E-Alam, Buniyad, Amanat, Ajnabee and Discovery of India are some of the TV Serials in which she has lent her voice.
