Aslam Khan has descended from the Hapur Gharana of Shadi Khan & Murad Khan whose achievements sound legendary. They were court musicians of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.

After an initial stint with his maternal uncle Haji Ustad Altaf Hussain Khan of the Khurja Gharana, Aslam Khan came under the tutelage of his brother-in-law, Gayan Samrat Azmat Hussain Khan Dilrang of the Atrauli-Jaipur gharana.

Ustad Aslam Khan is the traditional representative of 500 years old traditional musicians family of the prestigious Khurja gharana, Atrauli gharana, Agra and Delhi Tanars Khan gharana. His inborn genius enabled him to blend the diverse speciality of each respective gharana into an individual style which has tremendous aesthetic appeal.

Aslam Khan also sings Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Tarana, Bhajans and ghazals wuth equal command and mastery. His music has been recorded by Sangeet Natak Academi, NCPA, AIR. Very recently, HMV has released his album also.

Even today, his voice shows a powerful command and at the age of 61, he continues with his riyaaz of 8 hours everyday.
