 Rajat Dholakia,Mumbai
Almost 35 years in the music industry.... 2 national awards... today, one of the most sought-after jingle maker in India... What an introduction!
Rajat (popularly called 'Juku') is known for his talents in music circles, but not known for his achievements to the common man!!! Why is it so? Well... like father, like son. This veteran composer is the son of Shri Dilip Dholakia (our jury member). And is publicity and media-shy too.
In the days of wanting to get into the limelight at any cost (people spend their own money for that too!), Rajat comes across as a reserved person. He is found dressed in a kurta-pyjama, be it at film mahurats or recording studios or even at home.
He has composed music for feature films like 'Holi', 'Mirch Masala' directed by Ketan Mehta; 'Dharavi' directed by Sudhir Mishra; 'Kaafila' directed by Sudhanshu Hukku, 'Tarpan' directed by Bikram Singh; 'Tinnu ki Tina' directed by Paresh Kaamdar. He also supervised the music of 'Calcutta Mail'.
Rajat also completed the unfinished work of the late R D Burman in '1942 A Love Story'. He made Amitabh Bachchan sing in his composition in the recent film 'Aks'. Besides, Rajat has also been composing music for plays. "Khelaiya", being his most popular ones.
Rajat has won the national award as the best music director for 'Dharavi', 'Sunday' and Satyajit Ray award for the best Music Director for the feature film 'Mirch Masala'.
He has composed over three hundred jingles for leading brands : "Yeh Dil Maange More" and the ongoing "Yeh Pyaas Hai Badi" for Pepsi, "Thanda matlab..." series for Coke, "Kar Lo Duniya Mutthi Mein" for Reliance Infocomm, "Aaya Mausam Thande Thande" for Dermi Cool powder, "Oonche Log Oonchi Pasand" for Manikchand, etc. etc.
Here is is a committed and dedicated music composer, with his feet held firmly on ground, but talent touching the skies.
