 About the Artiste

Sandip Chatterjee,Kolkata

As a Santoor player, Sandip Chatterjee, manifested his strong affinity towards music at the age of eight. His father, Mr. Asoke Kumar Chatterjee, one of the International Footballer par excellence of the yester-years, and himself an ardent admirer of Indian Classical Music, encouraged his son's blooming talent to flourish with his personal inspiration. Sandip was accepted as a pupil by the eminent Santoor player Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya in the year 1980. He is taking taleem of “Ragdari” and “Layakari” from vocal maestro Pandit Ajay Chakraborty for the last five years. After a formal talim in pursuit of Proficiency of the highest order in Raga, Taal and laya, Sandip, an honours graduate in commerce from Calcutta university and a budding cost accountant, has been consolidating his knowledge with emotion, dedication and creativity, under the able guidance of his guru.

Instead of a regular performer for All India Radio and Calcutta Doordarshan, Sandip has successfully performed in many major music conferences and festivals all over India like, Doverlane Music Conference, Karnataka Music Festival, Sangeet Research Academy, NCPA, Rajya Sangeet Academy, India International Centre (I.I.C), Sursagar Music Festival, Theatre Music Festival, Prayag Sangeet Samyalan, Ramkrishana Mission (Kolkata) and toured abroad for music concerts and lecture demonstrations in countries like England, Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium, France, Austria, etc. In Germany, he has worked with a famous Jazz Group named "NUOKOLLIN JAZZ ORCHESTRA". He has performed in many TV Channels and TV serials and also worked with famous music directors of India like A.R Rahman, Rabindra Jain, V. Balsara, etc.

Having presented his recitals , a number of times before the audience with overwhelming success in India and abroad. Sandip has been acclaimed by the connoisseurs as one of the most talented and promising santoor player in India.

Awards & Achievements
Sandip has earned the first position for the Hindustani Classical Instrumental music (Best instrumentalist award) in the all-India Music and dance Competition organized by “Sangeetayan”, 1986, New Delhi.
He is also the winner of the “President of India Award”. He secured the first position in Hindustani classical (Instrumental) music competition organized by All India Radio, New Delhi, 1990.
Sandip has awarded by “Jadubhatta Puraskar” by Salt Lake Cultural Association of Kolkata for Guru Shisya Parampara in the year 1999
He was recognized by Pandit V. Balsara as "A grade" artiste of Song and drama division of Govt. of India.
He has also got "National Scholarship" from Govt. of India, for the year 2000-01.
He has received "Sangeet Kalaratna Award" by Guru Balaram Lal of Patna in the yaer 2000.
