 About the Artiste
Aboli Sulakhe,Mumbai

A disciple of Pt. Hariprasad Ghosh, Mrs. Zarin Sharma, Pt. S.C.R. Bhatt and her father, Arvind Apte, Aboli is a talented sarod artiste of today.

Her achievements include a gold medal at M.A. (Music) examinations from SNDT University, Mumbai and first prizes in several competitions held under the auspicies of Swar Sadhana Samiti, India Culture League, IIT Mumbai, etc.

Aboli is also a recipient of the Central Govt. of India's scholarship given for a period of 2 years to promising "young workers in different cultural fields."

She has also recorded with well known music directors like Datta Davjekar, Kalyanji Anandji, etc. and has given background music for several films and documentaries including a few episodes of the TV serial - Chanakya.

She studied for six years in India with Usatd Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, world-renowned Dhrupad master, and his prominent disciple Dr. Ritvik Sanyal.

Nancy has given scores of dhrupad recitals internationally and has received rave reviews in numerous publications. She has also performed in India at Mumbai and Goa. In 1991, she was invited by the King of Benaras to give a private recital for the royal family.

Before her intensive study of dhrupad music, Nancy was a concertizing western cellist. She was formerly co-principal cellist of the Rome Festival Orchestra and member of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale of Florence and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
