Dhanashree holds a masters degree in Hindustani Classical Music from the Mumbai University. She has been training under the stalwart of the Kirana Gharana - Pt. Firoz Dastur, for the past 20 years. Besides, she has also been receiving training and guidance in Thumri from Smt. Shobha Gurtu and Begum Afroz Bano.

She has performed in most of the leading music institutions in Mumbai including NCPA, Vile Parle Music Circle, Karnatak Sangh, etc. And has travelled abroad to conduct workshops and also perform at concerts.

In 1990, she went on a tour of USA through Jazz India, where she gave a lecture demonstration to familiarise the audience (from across the world), with Indian vocal techniques.

Dhanashree is a regular performer over All India Radio and has recorded music for Music Asia and Star Plus. She is currently specialising in the Thumri form of music.
