 About the Artiste

Manjiri Kelkar,Sangli

Manjiri is the daughter of Anand Ansanre, a well known tabla artiste. She started learning Kathak dance form at the age of six. She then took musical lessons in classical under the guidance of Pt. C.T.Mhaiskar at Sangli (Maharashtra).

Since 1988, Manjiri is taking her taleem under Pt. M. S. Kanetkar (a disciple of late Ustad Bhurji Khan). Pt. Kanetkar also is a retired Station Director of AIR. His training has helped Manjiri create a mix of styles of renditions.

She has been a first prize winner at several competitions (classical and light classical). She was also awarded a music scholarship from 1991-93 by the Govt. of India. Manjiri has also been selected for the Late Kesarbai Kerkar scholarship by NCPA and P. L. Deshpande Foundation for the year 1994.

Manjiri has performed at several concerts at Bhopal, Gwalior, Mumbai, Baroda, Pune, Nashik, etc. She is an approved high-grade artiste of AIR and has two cassette releases by a Pune company.
