Nakul Mishra,Ahmedabad

Born in 1964 in Calcutta, Nakul Mishra hails from the traditional Benaras Gharana family, which is into Indian Classical Music since generations.

At the tender age of seven, he started learning tabla playing from his father Pt. Nanhu Mishra - who was himself a disciple of the legendary tabla artiste, late Pt. Kanthe Maharaj. Nakul then received his further training from Pt. Gopal Mishra.

His constant practice and a keen ear has earned him an "A" grade by the All India Radio. Nakul is a chaumukhi tabla player - Indian classical, western, light music and folk. His control over taal and laya is to such an extent that it radiates a musical glow which emphasizes on the listener. His association with the Kathak dancer, Smt. Kumudini Lakhia made him shift to Ahmedabad, where he is happily settled.

Nakul's achievements include accompaniment to the legendary dancer Pt. Birju Maharaj ; participation in dance festivals in the USA, Italy, Saptak festival in Ahmedabad, Sharad Chandrika in Delhi, SAARC festival in Bangalore. He has also accompanied well known artistes such as Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherkjee, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Shubha Mudgal, Shahid Parvez, Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Pt. Rajeev Taranath, etc. His hard work and imaginative artistic tabla playing has earned him applaud in concerts. Nakul Mishra currently works with AIR, Ahmedabad as a Staff Artiste, and is also on the panel of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
