 Ghulam Hussain Khan,Mumbai
Popularly known as Raja Miyan, Ghulam Hussain Khan was born in an illustrious family of traditional musicians of the Agra Gharana. He is the son of Ustad Anwar Hussian Khan, a famous artiste of the gharana.
After the untimely death of his father, Raja Miyan started his formal training under his uncle, Padmabhushan Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan, a respected guru of the Agra Gharana. The intense training continued for a decade. And then he received guidance from Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan. At a very early age, he was selected by the Maharashtra Government to participate in programmes sponsored by it.
Absorbing the best of the Agra Gharana, Raja Miyan was groomed to present the beauty in bandish, with a special love for both, sur and bol, mixed with a fine sense of laya. Marked by a dhrupad like "nom-tom" alaap, bol taans, bol baant, Raja Miyan's gayaki is authentic and reflects the strong influence of his uncle late Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan.
Raja Miyan has given scores of private and public performances. The title of "Sur Mani" was conferred on him by the prestigious Sur Singar Samsad. He is also a regular performer on AIR and Doordarshan.
