Born in 1968, Ram Deshpande hails from Vidharbha. He has a rich musical tradition.

Ram had his primary lessons in music from Shri Chepe, Shri Panake & Pt. Prabhakar Deshkar. After that, he was trained under the able guidance of Pt. Yashwantbua Joshi & Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, to rise to great heights as a singer of the traditional Gwalior and Jaipur Gharanas. Currently, he is taking training from Pt. V. R. Athavale & Pt. Babanrao Haldankar, of the Agra Gharana.

Ram has completed "Sangeet Alankar" from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, a post graduation in music from Nagpur University with a gold medal. His doctorate degree has been received very recently. His research was on the Mishra Raga.

Ram has been the recepient of Govt. National Scholarship and was awarded the Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship by NCPA, Mumbai. He was selected as an expert at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Vashi (New Bombay). Besides this, he got the best vocalist award in 1991 by Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.

Ram is a regular vocalist of AIR and Doordarshan, Mumbai. He has participated in various concerts at the state and national levels. Germany and Holland are the two other countries he has visited for concerts.
