Welcoming #DaanUtsav with a song…

Pyaar Ka Utsav

In a life where reasons for celebrations appear to be dwindling, arrives an initiative, #DaanUtsav, which provides you a festival of giving that is celebrated annually from October 2 to October 8.

During these dedicated days [and beyond], participants perform acts of kindness by providing their time, cash and/or kind in interesting ways to any cause or to people that they believe in. For the record, #DaanUtsav is not an NGO, but a festivity.

Since 2009, thousands of events have been organised pan-India; as examples, autorickshaw drivers in Chennai donated to feed the poor, employees in Trivandrum collected monies to target their CEOs with a sponge ball, and Prakash Padukone provided time to coach underprivileged children. And these are only some examples.

Meanwhile, the hard work behind #DaanUtsav is also supported by a musical side. For instance, when composer Ram Sampath first heard of the #DaanUtsav initiative from a volunteer, Sampath’s immediate reaction was that he was passionate about the idea too, and would make a “contribution” to the festive cause by composing “#DaanUtsav #PyaarKaUtsav”. With a duration of two minutes and with lyrics provided by Ginny Diwan, Sampath has delivered a powerful performance on a song that focused on giving sounds that can be best described as folk-based with an audio track that showcases arrangements that are tight, laden with an infectious groove, perfectly supported by Indian instrumentation combined with effective acoustic guitar usage, and powered throughout by Sampath’s vocals soaring above the arrangements. A marvellous production.

You can listen to the full #DaanUtsav #PyaarKaUtsav song on any of these streaming platforms – Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music and Airtel Wynk.

In support of the cause and the song, a two-minute music video has been directed by Ravi Iyer and Talkaholics Productions, showcasing the theme of giving by providing examples of various events undertaken during #DaanUtsav through the years, as well as intermittent moments of celebrity endorsement behind the #DaanUtsav movement.

In further support, there also exists a minus-one [karaoke] “#DaanUtsav #PyaarKaUtsav”.

#DaanUtsav can also be followed on social media by visiting Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and, if you also happen to join the #DaanUtsav festivities, be sure to share it on daanutsav@gmail.com and become a DaanUtsaver too!
